Change and Check CVT Fluid RE0F11A

The Nissan Note (also known as the Versa Note) equipped with the RE0F11A Continuously Variable Transmission (CVT) requires regular fluid checks and servicing to maintain smooth performance. This guide explains how to drain, refill, and verify the fluid level.

Before You Start

• Work on a level surface and ensure the parking brake is applied.
• Always use the correct CVT fluid specified by Nissan.
• A diagnostic tool is recommended to monitor the transmission fluid temperature accurately, but an infrared thermometer can also be used as an alternative.
• Have a fluid transfer pump or a funnel with a long hose ready to refill the gearbox.

Draining and Refilling the CVT

1. Lift the vehicle securely using appropriate equipment.
2. Remove the CVT drain plug and allow the old fluid to drain completely.
3. Remove the overflow tube inside the drain opening.
4. Using a hand pump or funnel with hose, refill the CVT through the filler port with approximately 3.0 liters of fluid.
5. Reinstall the overflow tube and drain plug.
6. Lower the vehicle back to the ground.

Fluid Circulation

1. Start the engine while pressing the brake pedal.
2. Move the shift lever slowly through all positions from P to L, pausing for 5 seconds in each position.
3. Return the lever to P.
4. Monitor the CVT fluid temperature (ideal range: 35–45 °C).
5. Stop the engine.

Checking the Fluid Level

1. Lift the vehicle again.
2. Remove the drain plug.
3. Add about 0.5 liters of CVT fluid through the filler.
4. If fluid begins to trickle steadily from the overflow, the level is correct.
5. Reinstall the drain plug securely.
6. Lower the vehicle and stop the engine.

Torque Specification

• CVT drain plug: 23 Nm

Tips

• Always check fluid temperature before finalizing the level. Too cold or too hot will give incorrect results.
• Do not overfill — excess fluid can cause foaming and transmission damage.
• If you don’t have a diagnostic scanner, drive the car for a short distance until warm and recheck levels carefully.
• Dispose of old CVT fluid responsibly according to local regulations.
