Open and Close the Windows From the Key Fob

These instructions apply to the Skoda Octavia Mk4 (NX) 2020-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The Škoda Octavia (Mk4/NX, 2020–Present) can open all its windows — and the panoramic sunroof, if fitted — from the key fob, so you can flush the heat out of a sun-baked cabin before you get in, or close a window you left down when the rain arrives, all from a few metres away. Škoda calls this convenience windows (the VW Group comfort opening feature), and on the Mk4 it is usually a simple toggle in the infotainment menu.

What convenience windows does

Holding the remote’s unlock button rolls every window down together; holding lock winds them all up. On Octavias with the panoramic roof, the sunroof opens during the unlock hold and closes on the lock hold. The glass moves only while you keep the button pressed, so releasing stops it at any height. The key must be near the car for the function to respond.

How to open all the windows from the fob

  1. Stand within a couple of metres of the Octavia.
  2. Press and hold the unlock button on the key.
  3. Keep holding — all the windows wind down, and the sunroof opens if fitted.
  4. Release as soon as they reach the level you want.

How to close all the windows from the fob

  1. Stand next to the car within remote range.
  2. Press and hold the lock button continuously.
  3. The windows wind up and the sunroof closes while you hold.
  4. Release once everything is shut.

How to enable it in the infotainment

If holding the button does nothing, check the touchscreen. In the vehicle settings look for Convenience windows (under the door/locking or open & close section, depending on software) and switch it on. With it enabled, the remote operates all the windows as above.

If there is no such menu option, the feature is coded off at module level — the case on some base trims. A VAG diagnostic tool such as OBDeleven or VCDS activates the comfort window parameters in the convenience control unit, after which the menu option and the remote buttons work.

The door-lock fallback

On Octavias with a physical key barrel in the driver’s door, pull the emergency blade from the remote, remove the handle cap, insert the key and turn and hold toward unlock to lower the windows or toward lock to raise them. The convenience function must be enabled for this to work. Keyless cars use the remote buttons instead.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why doesn’t holding unlock do anything on my Octavia Mk4?

Convenience windows is probably switched off in the infotainment, or coded off at module level. Turn on “Convenience windows” in the vehicle settings first; if there is no option, activate it with OBDeleven or VCDS.

Does the panoramic sunroof open too?

Yes, if your Octavia has the panoramic roof. Holding unlock opens it with the windows; holding lock closes it.

It used to work but stopped — what happened?

Usually a window has lost its one-touch calibration, often after a flat or disconnected 12V battery. Re-initialise each window (hold the switch fully up until it stops, release, hold up again briefly, repeat down) and the remote function returns.

Can I open just the front windows?

The Octavia Mk4 opens all the windows together with this function; there is no factory split between front and rear like some Audi models offer.

Why must the key be nearby?

The car only runs convenience windows when it detects the key in range, both for security and so you can watch the glass. Stay within about two metres and it responds.

If a window won’t answer either the door switch or the remote, or a convenience-system warning shows, the body control module has likely stored a fault code. You can decode it and find the likely cause at autodtcs.com.
