Before you jack up or lift your Tesla Model S (2012–2021) with air suspension, you must put it into Jack Mode. Otherwise the system keeps trying to level the car and can fight the jack or set faults. You set it from the touchscreen.
Why It Matters
With air (self-levelling) suspension, the car constantly adjusts ride height. Lifting it without Jack Mode can stress the air struts and trigger warnings. Always enable Jack Mode first.
Activating Jack Mode
- Close all the doors.
- On the touchscreen, select ‘Controls’.
- Select ‘Service’, then ‘Jack mode’.
- The suspension is set for jacking — you can safely raise the car.
Turning It Off
Lower the car, then on the touchscreen go back to Controls > Service > Jack mode to deactivate it (it also cancels above a set speed as you drive away).
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I put a Tesla Model S in Jack Mode?
Touchscreen > Controls > Service > Jack mode, with all doors closed.
Do I need a tool?
No — it’s a touchscreen setting.
What if my Model S has coil springs?
Jack Mode only applies to cars with air suspension; coil-sprung cars don’t need it.
How do I cancel it?
Repeat the menu step, or just drive off — it cancels with speed and the suspension re-levels.
If a suspension warning appears afterwards, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
