Reset the Maintenance Light

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 12, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Toyota Corolla Mk11 (E170) 2014-2019.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The 2014–2019 Toyota Corolla (E170) clears its MAINT REQD light with the trip-meter button and the ignition — no tool, no menu. This is the US-market procedure.

  1. Switch the ignition off with Trip A showing (change the display to Trip A first).
  2. Press and hold the display-change (DISP) button, and while holding it turn the ignition to ON — do not start the engine, or the reset cancels.
  3. Keep holding until the display reads 000000. The MAINT REQD light is cleared.

FAQ

Why must the engine stay off?

Starting the engine cancels reset mode — the ignition has to be ON with the engine not running.

It has to show Trip A?

Yes — switch the meter to Trip A before you begin, not the odometer or Trip B.

What oil does it take?

0W-20 — about 4.4 qt with a filter on the 1.8L engine.

If your Corolla stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
