Reinitialise the Electric Windows

These instructions apply to the Vauxhall Mokka Mk2 (P2QO) 2020-Present.

If the one-touch (auto up/down) windows stop working on your Vauxhall Mokka Mk2 (2020–present) — Opel Mokka — usually after a flat or disconnected battery, the window motor has lost its learned end-stops and anti-pinch reference. Re-teaching it takes seconds per door, no tools. It is a normal reaction to losing 12V power rather than a fault, and you can put it right yourself without a trip to a workshop.

Why It Happens

The window controller remembers the fully-closed position so one-touch can stop correctly and the anti-pinch can work. A power interruption clears that memory, leaving only hold-to-move operation.

How It Works on the Mokka

Each auto window on the Mokka is managed by a door controller that tracks the motor’s travel so it always knows where the glass is. That stored position lets one tap drive the window fully up or down and lets the anti-pinch sense resistance and reverse the glass before it can trap anything. When the 12V supply is broken — a flat battery, a disconnect for other jobs, or a fuse — the count is wiped. The window still moves while you hold the switch because that is a direct command, but the automatic side stays off until the controller relearns its top and bottom limits.

Before You Start

  • Check the battery is charged and firmly reconnected — a weak supply can spoil the learn.
  • Sit inside with the door closed so the glass runs in its normal frame.
  • Turn the ignition on; leaving the engine running keeps the voltage steady.
  • Keep the window opening clear and check the runners are free of dirt.
  • Handle one window at a time using that door’s own switch.

How to Re-initialise a Window

  1. Sit in the car with the door closed and the ignition on.
  2. Pull the switch up to fully close the window and keep holding for a couple of seconds after it stops.
  3. Release, then press the switch down to fully open and hold a moment at the bottom.
  4. Pull up again to fully close and hold for a couple of seconds at the top.
  5. Release and test one-touch up and down — it should now run on its own.

Repeat for each affected window using its own switch.

If One-Touch Still Doesn’t Work

  • Hold a little longer at the fully-closed stop — the controller needs a clear moment at the top limit to register it.
  • Make sure the door is shut and the battery is healthy during the learn.
  • Repeat the full cycle two or three times — the first attempt sometimes only half-takes.
  • If a window won’t move at all, check the window fuse first.
  • Watch for glass that stops short of the top; grit or a stiff runner can keep it from the exact limit it must store.
  • If a single window won’t relearn while the others do, the likely cause is that door’s switch or motor, not the routine.

What to Expect After

Once the limits are stored again, a single tap up or down should run the glass fully in that direction, with the anti-pinch auto-reverse restored alongside it. The setting holds until power is next lost, so you should not have to repeat it unless the battery is disconnected again. Do the front pair first, then any auto rear windows.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why did my Mokka windows stop going up automatically?

A battery disconnect or flat battery wiped the learned end positions, so the door controller no longer knows where the top is. One-touch and the anti-pinch auto-reverse switch off as a safety default, leaving hold-to-move only. Re-initialising each window from its own switch restores the automatic function in seconds.

How do I reset the auto window on a Vauxhall Mokka?

Hold the switch up to fully close and keep holding a couple of seconds; if needed, fully open and fully close again, holding at the top. The brief pause at each end stop is what lets the controller record the limits, so make sure the glass reaches the very top before you release.

Do I have to do every window?

Only the ones with one-touch. On the Mokka that is typically the driver’s window, and on higher trims the front passenger and rear windows too. Re-teach each affected window from its own switch — the driver’s master panel and each door switch control their own motor for this.

Do I need a tool?

No — it is done entirely from the window switches with the ignition on. There is no menu and no scan tool. If a window still won’t relearn after several careful tries, that points to a fuse, switch or motor problem rather than anything the hand procedure can correct.

Is it safe to use the window before I re-initialise it?

Yes, with a little caution. The glass still raises and lowers while you hold the switch, so it remains usable. What you lose is the one-tap convenience and, importantly, the auto-reverse anti-pinch. Because that safety feature is off until you relearn, keep fingers and objects clear while closing the window.

Could a blown fuse be the real cause?

It can. If a window does not respond at all — not even hold-to-move — suspect the window circuit fuse rather than lost memory. Check and replace it, then run the re-initialise routine. If the window moves manually but simply won’t auto, the wiped memory is the cause and the relearn is all that is needed.
