These instructions apply to the Vauxhall Vivaro Mk2 (B) 2014-2019.

Opening the bonnet on a Vauxhall Vivaro (2014–2019) is a two-stage job: an interior release handle pops the catch, then an exterior safety tab lets it lift. If the handle pulls loose with no resistance, the cable or latch has failed — covered below.
The Vivaro B (2014–2019) is the second-generation Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro and the last one based on the Renault Trafic — long one of the UK’s best-selling medium vans. The 2019-on Vivaro C is a different, PSA-based van.
Open the Bonnet
- Inside the cab, pull the release handle (1) — low in the driver’s footwell by the door. The bonnet pops up at the front.
- At the front, push the safety tab (2) to the left as you lift, releasing the secondary catch.
- Lift the bonnet; the gas struts hold it open (no prop rod).
- Before reaching in, make sure the wiper stalk is in the park position.
Closing It Safely
- Check nothing has been left in the bay and nothing is on the catch.
- Lower to about 30 cm, then let it drop to latch under its own weight.
- Check it’s properly locked — don’t drive on the safety catch alone.
If the Bonnet Won’t Open
A handle that pulls loose with no tension means the release cable has failed — a known wear point. Try again with a helper pressing down on (or gently lifting) the bonnet while you pull the handle. If the cable is genuinely broken, the latch must be freed at the front, from underneath or through the grille — a careful job — then renew the cable.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Vivaro B the same as the newer Vivaro?
No. The Vivaro B (2014–2019) shares the Renault Trafic platform, so these guides apply to it and its NV300 and Talento siblings. The 2019-on Vivaro C moved to the PSA/Stellantis platform and is a different van with different procedures.
Where is the bonnet release on a Vauxhall Vivaro?
Inside the cab, low in the driver’s footwell by the door — pull handle 1, then release the exterior tab 2 at the front.
My bonnet won’t open — what now?
If the handle has gone slack the cable has likely failed — have someone press or lift the bonnet while you pull, or free the latch from the front, then renew the cable.
How is it held open?
By gas struts — no prop rod. If it won’t stay up, the struts are worn.
Is it the same as a Renault Trafic?
Yes — as the Renault Trafic-based Vivaro B it shares the same body, so the handle, tab and struts work the same across the Renault Trafic, Fiat Talento and Nissan NV300.
