Your 300 leaves the factory with BeltAlert switched on — the enhanced reminder that adds a repeating chime and a flashing light if the driver hasn’t buckled up shortly after setting off. It’s a sensible nudge, but on a quiet luxury sedan the recurring chime can grate, so Chrysler lets you toggle it off (or back on) yourself using nothing but the belt buckle and the ignition. No dealer visit and no tools.
How you know you can change it
If a chime keeps sounding for several seconds each time you pull away unbelted — even after the first warning has passed — that’s BeltAlert, and it’s the part you’re allowed to switch. The single confirming chime at the end of the routine is how the car tells you it registered the change. If you never hear that chime, the toggle didn’t take.
- With the ignition Off (any position except On or Start), buckle the driver’s seat belt.
- Turn the ignition to On and wait for the belt reminder to finish — about six seconds.
- Unbuckle and re-buckle the driver’s belt three or more times, finishing with it buckled.
- Turn the ignition Off (any position except On or Start). A single chime confirms the change — BeltAlert has flipped from on to off, or off to on.
What this does and doesn’t switch off
Toggling BeltAlert affects only the extended reminder — the extra chiming and warning that continue after you drive away. It does not disable the basic, legally required belt-warning light and initial chime, which stay active whatever you choose. There’s no way to defeat that first warning, and that’s by design.
If it doesn’t take
- The whole sequence must finish within 60 seconds of turning the ignition On — overrun that and nothing changes. Read the steps through first, then move briskly.
- You must end with the belt buckled; finishing unbuckled leaves the state unchanged.
- Give three or more full buckle-and-unbuckle cycles — a couple of quick, partial clicks may not register.
- No confirming chime almost always means you ran past the 60-second window; switch the ignition fully off and start again from step 1.
Do this parked, and remember that turning BeltAlert off doesn’t make you or your passengers any safer — belts still save lives, and the primary warning is there for a reason.
