Reset the Tire Pressure Warning Light

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 7, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Nissan Navara (D40) 2005-2015.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

This guide is for the North American Nissan Frontier (D40, 2005–2021), which is fitted with a tyre-pressure monitoring system (TPMS). The same D40 platform is sold as the Navara elsewhere, but the EU/Australian Navara of this era did not have TPMS — so this applies to the US-market Frontier. There is no reset button and no tool needed: correct the pressures and a short drive clears the warning.

How the System Works

A sensor in each wheel reports its pressure. When a tyre falls well below the recommended cold figure, the low-tyre-pressure warning light comes on. Once you set all four tyres back to the correct pressure and drive, the system reads the corrected values and turns the light off by itself.

Turning Off the Warning Light

  1. Find the recommended cold pressures on the placard in the driver’s door opening — check them cold, before driving or after the truck has stood a few hours.
  2. Inflate all four tyres (and the spare) to that figure with an accurate gauge.
  3. Confirm none is high or low — the system compares all four.
  4. Drive at 16 mph (25 km/h) or more for a few minutes.
  5. The low-tyre-pressure light goes out once the corrected pressures are confirmed, showing the system is operational again.

If the Light Stays On

A warning that flashes for about a minute at every start and then holds steady is a system fault rather than low air — usually a failed sensor or one with a dead battery, which needs equipment to identify. If a sensor has been replaced it may need its ID registered before it works again. If the light simply stays on steady, re-check every tyre including the spare with a trusted gauge; a slow leak will keep bringing it back.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is there a TPMS reset button? No. The Frontier D40 relearns pressures automatically as you drive — there is nothing for the owner to press.

My Navara doesn’t have this light — why? The EU/AU diesel Navara D40 was not fitted with TPMS; the system is specific to the North American Frontier and other TPMS-equipped markets.

I inflated the tyres but the light stayed on. Drive above 16 mph for a few minutes so the sensors are re-read. If it will not clear, one tyre may be off or a sensor may be faulty.

What does a flashing-then-steady light mean? That pattern indicates a TPMS fault, not simply low pressure — typically a sensor or its battery, which should be diagnosed.

For the key-fob battery, cluster self-test and other D40 procedures, see the D40 key-fob battery guide. If a check-engine light is also on, our sister site autodtcs.com lists engine trouble codes.
