Reset the Service Indicator

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 11, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Peugeot Partner Mk2 (B9) 2008-2018.

Short answer: you can reset the service (spanner) indicator on the Peugeot Partner B9 (2008–2018) yourself in seconds, with no tool. Turn the ignition off, press and hold the trip-reset peg below the display, then switch the ignition on — keep holding until the mileage counts down to “=0” and the spanner disappears.

What the Spanner Symbol Means

The Partner tracks its service interval electronically. When you switch the ignition on, the spanner (“maintenance”) symbol lights for a few seconds and the odometer shows the distance to the next service. Once the interval is nearly up the spanner flashes, and when it is overdue the spanner stays lit with the engine running. On BlueHDi models a separate amber Service tell-tale also stays on. Carrying out the service does not clear it — the counter has to be reset.

Reset the Service Indicator

  1. Switch the ignition off.
  2. Press and hold the trip-reset peg — the right-hand of the two small pegs below the central display (the left peg is the panel dimmer).
  3. With the peg still held, switch the ignition on. The odometer starts counting down.
  4. Keep holding until the display shows “=0” and the spanner symbol goes out, then release the peg.

The service indicator is now reset. Switch the ignition off; the spanner should no longer appear when you next switch on.

If You’re Going to Disconnect the Battery Afterwards

The reset is only stored a short while after you finish. If you plan to disconnect the 12V battery straight after resetting, lock the van and wait at least five minutes first — otherwise the reset is lost and the spanner returns.

Before You Start

  • Do the actual service first. Resetting the counter without carrying out the work just hides the real interval.
  • If nothing counts down when you switch on, you probably released the peg too early or held the wrong one — start again with the right-hand peg held before the ignition goes on.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which button resets the Peugeot Partner service light?

The trip-reset peg — the right-hand of the two small pegs below the central display. The left peg only dims the instrument lighting. Hold the right peg, then switch the ignition on and keep holding until the counter reaches “=0”.

Do I need a diagnostic tool to reset the Partner service indicator?

No. On the B9 Partner the service (spanner) reset is done entirely from the dashboard peg with the ignition — no OBD tool is needed.

Why does the spanner keep coming back after I reset it?

Usually because the reset wasn’t stored — most often when the battery was disconnected too soon afterwards. Reset it again, then lock the van and wait at least five minutes before disconnecting anything.

My Partner is a BlueHDi and a separate “Service” light stays on — is that the same thing?

The spanner is the service-interval reminder and resets as above. A steady Service light on BlueHDi can also flag the emissions/AdBlue system; if it stays on with the UREA warning after the spanner is cleared, that is a separate AdBlue issue, not the service counter.

Does resetting the spanner service the van?

No — it only clears the reminder. Change the oil, filters and anything else due first, then reset the counter so the next interval is measured correctly.

If a warning light or fault code appeared alongside the service message, look it up on our sister site autodtcs.com to see whether it points to a fault or just the service interval.
