Set the Wipers to Service Position

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 2, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Audi Q5 Mk2 (FY/80A) 2017-Present.

To change the wiper blades on the Audi Q5 (FY/80A, 2017–present) you first move the wipers to their upright service position. They won’t lift far enough with the ignition off, so use the simple ignition-and-stalk sequence below.

How to Set the Q5 (FY) Wipers to Service Position

  1. Make sure the hood (bonnet) is closed — the wipers won’t enter service position with it open.
  2. Turn the ignition on, then off.
  3. Within about 10 seconds, flick the wiper stalk down (the single wipe/flick position).
  4. The wipers rise to the vertical service position, clear of the windshield.
  5. Change the blades, then turn the ignition on and operate the wipers to return them to park.

In Cold Weather

  • Check the blades aren’t frozen to the glass before moving them, or you can damage the wiper motor or linkage.
  • Lift the blades off the glass gently once they’re upright if there’s any ice.

Frequently Asked Questions

My Q5 wipers won’t lift for a blade change — why?

They only rise fully in service position. Turn the ignition on then off and flick the wiper stalk within 10 seconds; the bonnet must be closed.

How do I put them back?

Turn the ignition on and run the wipers once — they return to the normal parked position automatically.
