Replace the Cabin (Pollen) Filter

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 7, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Honda Accord Mk8 (CP/CS) 2008-2012.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The cabin (dust and pollen) filter on the North American Accord (2008–2012) sits behind the glove box. It is a tool-free swap that restores weak airflow and clears stale smells, and it is service item “2” in the Maintenance Minder schedule.

This is the North American Accord. For the European Accord (CU/CW, 2008–2015) see the European guide.

How to replace the cabin filter on a Honda Accord (2008–2012)

  1. Open the glove box fully.
  2. Remove the glove box separator and the cover behind it to expose the filter housing.
  3. Slide the filter assembly out of the blower unit.
  4. Fit the new filter with its airflow arrow pointing the same way as the old one (normally downward).
  5. Refit the cover and separator and close the glove box.

Change it at the Maintenance Minder call, or about every 15,000 miles (24,000 km) in dusty areas, or whenever airflow from the vents drops. Note the orientation before removing the old filter so the new one seats correctly.

Frequently asked questions

Where is the cabin filter on an Accord?

Behind the glove box. With the glove box separator and cover removed, the filter slides straight out of the blower housing — no tools required.

How often should it be replaced?

At Maintenance Minder sub-item “2”, or roughly every 15,000 miles in dusty conditions. Weak airflow or a musty vent smell means it is due.

Which way does it face?

Match the airflow arrow on the frame to the old filter — normally pointing down. Fitting it reversed restricts airflow.
