The 2009–2014 Ford F-150 has a direct TPMS that must be relearned after a tire rotation, because the front and rear placard pressures differ. Ford’s relearn uses the hazard switch and a quick pressure change at each wheel — no tool. This is the US-market procedure.
- Drive above 20 mph for at least 2 minutes, then park with an air pump handy.
- Ignition OFF, then ON (engine off). Flick the hazard flashers on and off three times within 10 seconds — a horn chirp and TRAIN LEFT FRONT TIRE confirm relearn mode.
- Work clockwise — left-front, right-front, right-rear, left-rear — briefly letting air out at each until the horn chirps (single chirp = learned, double = retry).
- Turn the ignition off (two short beeps means it failed — restart). Set all four tires to the placard pressure.
Cold pressures aren’t printed in the manual — read the Tire Label on the driver’s door edge or B-pillar for your truck. Mini-spare = 60 psi. Don’t stand within 3 ft of another Ford doing the same relearn, and don’t pause more than 2 minutes between wheels.
FAQ
Do I need a relearn tool?
No — the hazard-switch method plus a brief deflation at each wheel does it.
Why relearn after a rotation?
The F-150 runs different front and rear pressures, so the truck must know which sensor is now at which corner.
It won’t enter relearn mode.
Make sure you flicked the hazards exactly three times within 10 seconds with the ignition ON, engine off, after the 2-minute drive.
If your F-150 stores a fault code with the warning light, look it up on autodtcs.com.
