Reset the Service Indicator

These instructions apply to the Suzuki Ignis Mk3 (ATK) 2016-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: May 17, 2026

The Suzuki Ignis Mk3 (ATK, 2016–present) — the third-generation Ignis, returning to European markets after a 16-year gap as a tall, distinctive supermini-crossover, built in Sagara (Japan) for European sale in 1.2 DOHC (K12C, 66 kW, 2016–) and 1.2 DOHC SHVS / MHEV (K12M, 61 kW, 2017–; K12D Smart Hybrid, 61 kW, 2019–) petrol forms — uses the standard Suzuki rotary-knob cluster reset shared with the Vitara LY and SX4 S-Cross JY. There’s no diagnostic tool needed; the entire procedure is the cluster rotary control. The procedure is identical across every ATK engine variant and across pre-facelift (2016–2020) and facelift (2020–) cars.

When to Reset the Service Indicator

  • After completing an oil and filter change.
  • After a scheduled inspection service.
  • If the spanner / wrench icon with “SERVICE” appears at startup.

Before You Start

  • Park on a level surface with the engine off, then turn the ignition on without starting (key turn to “ON” — most Ignises are key-start, only top-trim SZ5 with Smart Entry has push-button).
  • Complete the actual service work before the reset.
  • Locate the cluster rotary control — a small rotary knob with a press function, mounted on the lower-right of the speedometer face. It presses (push to confirm) and rotates (clockwise / anticlockwise to scroll). This is the same control used for trip-meter selection during normal driving.
  • On the SHVS / MHEV (K12M / K12D) hybrid variants: pressing START without the brake puts the car in the equivalent of accessory / IGN-ON mode, which is what you want for the reset — do not press the brake (which puts it into READY / engine-start mode).

Tools and Supplies

None for the reset itself. For the oil change, fresh Suzuki-spec oil — 0W-20 ACEA C5 / Suzuki Genuine ECSTAR 0W-20 for all K12-series engines (K12C, K12M, K12D); a new spin-on filter; a 14 mm sump-plug socket; torque 35 Nm. The K12C takes 3.6 L with filter, the K12M/K12D Smart Hybrid takes 3.4 L. The 12V battery on Smart Hybrid cars is in the boot, separate from the 12V/48V lithium-ion stack under the front seat.

The Service Reset Procedure

  1. Turn the ignition ON (engine off, instruments live).
  2. Press and hold the cluster rotary control for at least 5 seconds. The cluster LCD will enter menu mode.
  3. Turn the rotary control clockwise to scroll through the menu options.
  4. Select ‘Oil change’ (or ‘Oil reset’ on some markets / language settings).
  5. Press the rotary control once to enter the Oil change item.
  6. Turn / scroll to select ‘Reset OC’ (Reset Oil Change).
  7. Press and hold the rotary control for another 5 seconds.
  8. The cluster LCD will display ‘SUCCESS’ when the reset completes.
  9. Turn the ignition off. Reset complete.

Verify the Reset Worked

Switch the ignition off, wait 30 seconds, then cycle back on. The spanner / “SERVICE” icon should be gone. Re-open the cluster menu via the rotary control and check the Oil change item — it should now show a fresh full interval. Typical ATK Ignis intervals after the reset:

  • 1.2 K12C (non-hybrid): 12,500 miles (20,000 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first.
  • 1.2 K12M SHVS (mild hybrid, 2017–): 12,500 miles (20,000 km) or 12 months.
  • 1.2 K12D Smart Hybrid (2019–): 12,500 miles (20,000 km) or 12 months.

UK severe-service / short-trip driving requires halving the interval manually. Ignises are city cars by design so the severe-use schedule is often the realistic one.

Troubleshooting

  • The cluster menu doesn’t open. The 5-second hold must be continuous; brief releases reset the timer. Ensure the ignition is fully ON, not just in accessory mode.
  • I see ‘Oil change’ but no ‘Reset OC’ option. The menu has two levels — press the rotary once after selecting ‘Oil change’ to enter the sub-menu where ‘Reset OC’ appears. Turning the knob within the top-level menu doesn’t open the sub-menu.
  • ‘SUCCESS’ didn’t appear after the second 5-second hold. Release the rotary and hold again from step 7. The cluster needs a continuous 5 seconds of contact.
  • 2020 facelift Ignis — anything different? The 2020 facelift refreshed the front-end styling and infotainment but kept the cluster and rotary control unchanged. Procedure unchanged.
  • SHVS / Smart Hybrid — anything different? No. The 12V/48V hybrid system uses the same cluster and same rotary control. The service indicator only tracks the engine oil interval, not the hybrid battery.
  • Reset works but warning returns after a few miles. 12V battery condition. Load-test; replace if older than 5 years. On SHVS / Smart Hybrid cars the boot-mounted 12V is the one to test — the under-seat 48V lithium pack isn’t related to the service indicator.
  • AllGrip 4WD Ignis — same procedure? Yes. AllGrip is a driveline option; cluster and reset path are unchanged.

Frequently Asked Questions

What does the spanner symbol on the Ignis mean?

On the ATK Ignis the spanner / wrench icon is the service-distance reminder — it indicates the oil-change interval has been reached. The icon does not indicate an engine fault and isn’t related to the engine-check (CEL) warning. The hybrid READY light is also separate.

Do I need a diagnostic tool?

No. The owner-accessible rotary-control method handles every Ignis reset. Suzuki SDT and aftermarket scan tools can reset the service counter via OBD-II, but the cluster method is standard.

Does the reset clear engine fault codes?

No. The reset zeros the service-distance counter only. Engine fault codes need a scan tool. For DTC interpretation see autodtcs.com.

Is the procedure the same as the Vitara LY and Swift Mk3 facelift?

Yes — the ATK Ignis, Suzuki Vitara Mk4 (LY), the facelift Swift Mk3 (AZG/AZH 2017+), and the facelift Swift Mk3 all share the same Suzuki cluster generation with the rotary control, and the menu path ‘Oil change → Reset OC’ is identical across them.

How often does the Ignis service indicator come up?

Suzuki’s UK-market schedule for the ATK Ignis is 12,500 miles (20,000 km) or 12 months, whichever comes first on every variant. Severe-use driving — which includes predominantly short urban trips, the natural use case for an Ignis — halves the interval to 6,250 miles / 6 months.

What about the previous Ignis (RM/RG)?

The Ignis RM (2003–2012) and original RG (2000–2006) used much older Suzuki clusters with simpler trip-button reset methods, not the rotary control. The ATK is effectively a clean-sheet design from a reset-procedure standpoint.
