If the ESP/stability or steering warning light has come on in your Infiniti Q50 (V37, 2013–2023) — commonly after a battery disconnection, a wheel alignment, or steering work — the steering angle sensor just needs re-zeroing. On the Q50 you can usually do this without a tool.
When You Need This
- After disconnecting or replacing the battery.
- After a wheel alignment or steering/suspension work.
- When the ESP/steering warning light is on with no other fault.
Re-initialising the Sensor
- Start the engine.
- Turn the steering wheel from the left stop to the right stop, then centre it.
- The warning light should go out once the sensor has re-zeroed.
If it doesn’t clear this way, a diagnostic tool can perform the calibration.
If the Light Stays On
- Make sure the wheels are pointing straight when you finish.
- Repeat the lock-to-lock turn, then drive a short distance.
