Home/Tesla/Model X/(2016-2021)/Reset the Service Indicator

Reset the Service Indicator

These instructions apply to the Tesla Model X (2016-2021). For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 10, 2026

The Tesla Model X (2016–2021) doesn’t use fixed service intervals like a combustion car, but the touchscreen can show a service-distance/maintenance reminder you may want to clear after work such as a brake-fluid change. You do it from the touchscreen — no tool needed.

Before You Start

  • Only clear the reminder after the relevant maintenance is done.

Resetting the Service Reminder

  1. On the central touchscreen, open the service/diagnostic menu.
  2. Select ‘Controls’, then ‘Update service distance’.
  3. Or select ‘Service’ > ‘MAINTENANCE’ and follow the on-screen instructions.
  4. The service interval is now reset.

If the Reminder Doesn’t Clear

  • Confirm the on-screen steps — the menu wording varies with software version.
  • Check for a software update — menus move between releases.
  • A warning that won’t clear can store a code — look it up on autodtcs.com.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a tool?

No — it’s done from the touchscreen.

Where is the reset?

In the Service / Controls menu on the central display (wording varies by software version).

Should I reset before or after maintenance?

After — clear the reminder once the work is complete.

If a service-related warning stays on, decode the code on autodtcs.com.
