Honda Insight Mk2 (ZE2) 2009-2014

The second-generation Honda Insight (ZE2, 2009-2014) is a 1.3 i-VTEC IMA hybrid with a CVT. These owner guides cover the DIY jobs it responds to without a diagnostic tool: clearing the Maintenance Minder oil-life reminder, safely disconnecting the 12 V battery (the high-voltage IMA system is separate and must not be touched), releasing the CVT shift-lock when the car has no power, re-initialising the power windows and locating the OBD-II socket. Every step is shown on a real Insight, photographed by us.

Frequently asked questions

Is it safe to disconnect the battery on a Honda Insight hybrid?

Yes — the under-bonnet 12 V battery is a standard battery. Never touch the orange high-voltage IMA cabling, which is a separate sealed system.

How do I reset the Maintenance Minder on a Honda Insight?

Ignition on (engine off), press SEL/RESET until the oil life shows, hold it for over ten seconds, then select and confirm RESET.

My Insight will not come out of Park — what do I do?

Use the shift-lock override: apply the parking brake, prise the small cover beside the selector and press the key into the slot while moving the lever out of P.
