If the remote on your Citroën Berlingo Mk2 (B9, 2008–2018) has become weak — you have to be close to lock or unlock — the fob’s coin cell needs replacing. The Berlingo flip key uses a CR2032 cell. This guide shows how. It takes a couple of minutes with a small screwdriver.
What You Need
- One fresh CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell (match the one you remove to be sure).
- A small flat-blade screwdriver.
How to Replace the Berlingo Key Battery
- Fold out the metal key blade — this exposes the seam of the case.
- Insert a screwdriver into the seam and gently split the two halves.
- Lift out the old CR2032 cell, noting which way up it sits.
- Fit the new cell the same way round.
- Click the case back together and fold the blade away.
- Check the remote locks and unlocks the van.
If the Remote Doesn’t Respond After the Change
Occasionally the remote needs re-syncing after a dead battery: with the new cell fitted, put the key in the ignition and turn to ON, or lock/unlock once with the mechanical key in the door, then try the remote again.
Does It Need Programming?
No — replacing the coin cell doesn’t affect the key’s coding. A brand-new or replacement key must be programmed by a Citroën dealer or auto locksmith.
Frequently Asked Questions
What battery does the Berlingo key take?
A CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell — but match the one you remove, as a few remotes used a different size.
My remote still won’t work with a fresh cell — now what?
Check the cell orientation and that the contacts are clean. Try re-syncing by cycling the ignition or locking with the key in the door. If it’s still dead, the fob may have a worn button or internal fault.
Can I program a spare key myself?
No — Citroën key programming needs the dealer diagnostic tool. Only the battery swap is owner-doable.
