Reset the Tire Pressure Monitoring System

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated September 27, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Ford F-150 Mk14 (P702) 2021-present.

The 14th-generation Ford F-150 (P702, 2021 onward) needs its Tire Pressure Monitoring System retrained after a tyre rotation (the front and rear pressures differ) or when a sensor is replaced. You can do it with just an air pump — no dealer tool — by entering TPMS training mode and briefly bleeding each sensor until the horn confirms.

Briefly bleeding a valve to teach that sensor during the relearn – a universal step; the ignition and hazard sequence is F-150-specific. Illustrative frame.
  1. Drive above 20 mph (32 km/h) for at least two minutes, then park where you can reach all four tyres and have an air pump handy.
  2. Switch the ignition off, then on again without starting the engine.
  3. Switch the hazard flashers on then off three times within 10 seconds. The horn sounds once and a training message appears — you are in training mode.
  4. At the left-front tyre, remove the valve cap and let air out until the horn beeps once (that sensor is learned). Do each tyre within two minutes.
  5. Repeat at the right-front, then right-rear, then left-rear tyre.
  6. Switch the ignition off, then reinflate all four tyres to the pressure shown on the driver door-jamb label.

Frequently asked questions

The horn beeped twice — what does that mean?

A double beep means that sensor was not learned. Repeat that tyre. If it keeps failing after several tries, have the sensor checked by a dealer.

Do I need a TPMS relearn tool?

No. The F-150 relearns through the ignition-and-hazards sequence plus the air-bleed above — no special tool is required.

When do I actually need to do this?

After a tyre rotation (because the front and rear recommended pressures differ) or after a sensor or wheel is replaced. Simply topping up air does not need a relearn.

If the low-pressure light stays on with a fault message, scan for a TPMS code on autodtcs.com to tell a flat tyre from a failed sensor.
