Changing a headlight bulb on the North American Accord (2008–2012) is a DIY job from under the hood. The 2.4 and V6 use the same bulbs: HB3 high beam, HB4 low beam, and an H11 front fog light where fitted.
How to replace a headlight bulb on a Honda Accord (2008–2012)
- Switch everything off and open the hood. Work on a cool lamp.
- Reach behind the headlight to the bulb socket. Twist the bulb holder counter-clockwise (or unclip the connector) and withdraw it.
- Release the retaining clip and pull the old bulb straight out.
- Fit the new bulb without touching the glass — skin oil shortens halogen bulb life. Handle it by the base.
- Refit the holder, reconnect, and test both beams before closing the hood.
Honda Accord (2008–2012) exterior bulbs
- High beam: HB3 (9005), 60 W
- Low beam: HB4 (9006), 51 W
- Front fog light: H11, 55 W (if equipped)
- Turn signal, parking, brake/tail, reverse and plate lights: standard wedge/bayonet bulbs — check the exact rating against the bulb you remove or your owner’s manual chart.
If a new bulb does not light, check the holder is fully seated and the connector is clean. A bulb that blows repeatedly points to a wiring or moisture problem in the headlight unit, not the bulb.
Frequently asked questions
What headlight bulbs does the Accord use?
HB3 (9005) for high beam and HB4 (9006) for low beam on the 2008–2012 Accord, with an H11 front fog bulb where fitted. The 4-cylinder and V6 use the same types.
Can I touch the new bulb?
Only by its metal/plastic base. Fingerprints on the glass create a hot spot that shortens the bulb’s life — wipe it with alcohol if you do touch it.
One headlight is much dimmer — do I replace both?
Halogen bulbs dim with age, so replacing them in pairs keeps the beams matched. A single very dim or yellow bulb is usually near the end of its life.
