Deactivate or Activate the Start/Stop System

These instructions apply to the Opel Zafira Mk3 (P12) 2011-2019. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The Start/Stop system on the Opel Zafira Tourer automatically shuts off the engine when the vehicle comes to a stop in order to reduce fuel consumption. Before carrying out engine work or if you prefer not to use the system, it can be temporarily deactivated using one of the methods below.

Before Working on the Engine

Always make sure the Start/Stop system is deactivated before performing any work in the engine compartment.

Method 1: Using the Start/Stop Button

The ECO button on the center console is used to deactivate or activate the Start/Stop system.
  1. Locate the Start/Stop system button on the dashboard.
  2. Press the button once.
  3. The Start/Stop system warning light will turn off.
  4. The system is now deactivated.

Method 2: Automatic Deactivation

  1. Unbuckle the driver’s seat belt.
  2. Open the driver’s door.
  3. The Start/Stop system will switch off automatically.

Reactivating the Start/Stop System

  • The system is automatically reactivated the next time the ignition is switched on.
  • You can also reactivate it manually by pressing the Start/Stop button again.

Additional Information

  • This procedure applies to Opel Zafira Tourer models produced between 2011 and 2019.
  • Deactivating the system does not cause any fault codes or permanent changes.
  • The Start/Stop system will always default to its normal operating state after restarting the vehicle.
