The fuel filler flap on the Hyundai i10 (IA, 2014–2019) has no push-panel on the outside — it’s released from inside the car. If you’re new to the car or in a hurry at the pump, here’s where to find it and what to do if the flap is stuck.
How to Open It
- Switch the engine off.
- Pull the fuel-flap release lever upward — it’s on the floor by the driver’s seat, marked with a fuel-pump symbol.
- Go to the flap and open it out.
- Turn the fuel cap anticlockwise to remove it, then refuel.
Closing It
Refit the cap and turn it clockwise until it clicks — the click means it’s sealed — then push the flap shut and check it’s flush. A cap that isn’t clicked home is a common cause of a fuel-system warning light.
If the Flap Won’t Open
In cold weather the flap can freeze shut. Press firmly on the flap to crack the ice and free it, or use a de-icer — never a radiator antifreeze — or move the car somewhere warm. Don’t force or prise it open, which bends the hinge.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the fuel-flap release on a Hyundai i10?
On the floor beside the driver’s seat, marked with a fuel-pump icon. Pull it up to pop the flap.
I pulled the lever and the flap still won’t open — why?
On i10s where the filler flap locks with the central locking, it stays shut while the car is locked. Unlock the car first, then pull the release lever.
The flap won’t open in winter — what do I do?
Ice has likely sealed it. Press on the flap to break the ice or thaw it with de-icer; avoid forcing it.
Which way does the fuel cap turn?
Anticlockwise to remove, clockwise until it clicks to seal.
If a fuel-system or check-engine light comes on after refuelling — often just a loose cap — look the code up on autodtcs.com.
