The OBD-II diagnostic socket on the Mazda 2 (DE, 2007–2014) is where a code reader, scan tool or Bluetooth dongle plugs in to talk to the car’s computers. It is the first thing you need to find when a warning light appears, and on the DE it is tucked up under the dashboard on the driver’s side.
Where to find it
Sit in the driver’s seat and look under the dashboard, above the pedals, in the lower trim to the left of the steering column. The 16-pin trapezoid connector faces downwards in that recess — you will usually feel it before you see it, as the area is in deep shade. On some cars a small trim panel or coin tray sits just below it.
Using the port
- Make sure the ignition is off before plugging in.
- Push the scan tool’s plug firmly into the 16-pin socket — it only fits one way.
- Turn the ignition on (engine off) to power the tool for reading and clearing codes; start the engine if you want live sensor data.
- Unplug the tool when finished; a permanently fitted dongle can drain the battery over time if left in.

- Read and clear fault codes when the check-engine, ABS or airbag light comes on.
- Watch live data — coolant temperature, fuel trims, sensor readings — to track down a running fault.
- Check readiness monitors before an emissions test.
