Disconnect and Reconnect the Battery

These instructions apply to the Nissan Micra Mk5 (K14) 2017-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Nissan Micra Mk5 (K14, 2017–present) is a straightforward engine-bay job. This guide covers safe disconnection and re-teaching the one-touch windows afterwards.

Where the Battery Is

The 12 V battery is in the engine compartment, under a cover.

Disconnecting

  1. Switch the ignition off and keep the Intelligent Key away from the car; give the electronics a couple of minutes to power down.
  2. Disconnect the negative (−, black) terminal first and lift the lead clear.
  3. If removing the battery, disconnect the positive (+, red) next, then the hold-down.

Airbag/pretensioner safety: if you’ll be near airbags or seat-belt pretensioners, allow the system to discharge for a couple of minutes.

Reconnecting & Re-teaching

  1. Reconnect positive (+) first, then negative (−) last; tighten and refit the cover.
  2. Reset the clock and re-enter radio presets.
  3. Re-initialise the power windows — one-touch drops out after a power cut. See our Micra window guide.

The Micra doesn’t need the new battery coded.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which terminal first on the Micra?

Always the negative (−) first, and reconnect it last.

Does it need the battery registered?

No — just fit it and re-teach the windows.

Will I lose my radio?

The Micra’s media usually isn’t code-locked; just reset the clock.

Why won’t my windows auto-close after this?

Cutting power clears their learned position. Run the quick re-initialise.

For any warning light that stays on, look up the code on autodtcs.com. To clear the service reminder, see our Micra Mk5 service reset guide.
