Short answer: when the Peugeot Partner B9 (2008–2018) remote stops working, fit a fresh CR1620 3V cell, then re-sync it: put the key in the ignition, switch on, and within 10 seconds press and hold the lock button for at least 5 seconds. Switch off, wait a minute, and the remote works again.
When the Remote Needs Attention
A low remote battery shows as a message and a beep on the display, and the range drops before it stops altogether. After you change the battery — or any time the 12V battery has been disconnected — the remote may need re-synchronising to the van before it will lock and unlock again.
Replace the Battery (CR1620)
- Have a new CR1620 3V coin cell ready.
- Prise the key housing open at the eyelet with a coin to reach the battery.
- Swap in the new cell, matching the polarity, and clip the housing shut.
- Test the remote. If it doesn’t work, re-synchronise it (below).
Use the same type of cell as the original; a different type can damage the remote.
Re-synchronise the Remote
- Insert the key in the ignition, with the remote’s buttons (padlock symbols) facing you.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Within 10 seconds, press and hold the lock button (closed padlock) for at least 5 seconds.
- Switch the ignition off.
- Wait at least one minute before using the remote. It now works again.
Frequently Asked Questions
What battery does the Peugeot Partner key fob take?
A CR1620 3V lithium coin cell. Prise the housing open at the eyelet with a coin to reach it, and fit the same type.
Why doesn’t my Partner remote work after changing the battery?
It usually needs re-synchronising. Put the key in the ignition, switch on, and within 10 seconds hold the lock button for at least 5 seconds; switch off and wait a minute.
My remote stopped working after the 12V battery was disconnected — is that normal?
Yes. Disconnecting the main battery can de-sync the remote. Run the same re-synchronise steps and it will pair again.
The remote still won’t work after re-syncing — now what?
Check the coin cell is the right type and the correct way round, and that the key blade is fully unfolded. If it still fails, the transponder or remote may be faulty and needs a Peugeot dealer, who can read the key and transponder codes.
