Seeing the spanner or a “Service” message on your Renault Captur Mk2 (XJB, 2020–present)? It means the oil-service counter has reached zero. You don’t need a garage to clear it — the Captur uses the same tidy wiper-stalk menu as its Clio sister car. Do the oil and filter first, then follow the steps below.
Only Reset After the Oil Is Changed
The counter just tracks distance and time since the last reset — it has no idea how old the oil actually is. Reset it only once fresh oil and a new filter are in, so the next interval starts from the right place.
How to Reset the Captur Mk2 Oil Service
- Turn the ignition on, but don’t start the engine.
- Using the scroll button (1) on the wiper stalk, step through to the ‘Vehicle’ menu.
- Confirm with button (2) or (3).
- Choose ‘Mileage before oil service’.
- Hold the ‘OK’ button for 10 seconds — the display jumps back to the full distance to the next service.
- Switch the ignition off to finish.
On Captur trims with the EASY LINK touchscreen, the reset can also sit in the on-screen vehicle/service menu.
If It Won’t Reset
- Let go of OK early — the full 10-second hold is what registers it; repeat and be patient.
- Engine running — the reset expects ignition on with the engine off.
- Another warning is lit — an amber engine/oil light is a fault, not the service timer, and won’t clear here.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the service reset on the Captur Mk2?
In the dashboard menu via the wiper-stalk buttons: Vehicle → Mileage before oil service → hold OK 10 s.
Do I need a scan tool?
No — the stalk buttons and the ignition are all you need.
Engine on or off?
Ignition on, engine off — that’s the position the reset uses.
The spanner returned — why?
The 10-second hold didn’t complete. Repeat and keep OK held until the full distance appears.
If a warning light showed alongside the service message, look it up on autodtcs.com. After battery work, see our Captur Mk2 battery guide.
