To change the wiper blades or lift them off the glass in winter on a Renault Megane Mk4 (2016–2022), the arms need to be in their service position, standing up clear of the bonnet edge. If you just switch off, they park low under the bonnet lip where you can’t reach them. Here’s how to raise them.
Why You Need the Service Position
The Megane’s wipers park tucked below the bonnet trim. Forcing them up from there can bend an arm or crack the trim, so Renault provides a service-position mode.
How to Set the Wiper Service Position
- Make sure the bonnet is closed.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Push the wiper stalk switch down — the arms sweep up to the service position.
- Lift the arms away from the glass to change the blades or clear snow.
Returning Them to Park
Fold the arms back onto the glass, then return the wiper stalk to its neutral position — the wipers move back to the normal parked position.
If the Wipers Won’t Lift
- Ignition must be on — unlike some cars, the Megane uses the stalk with the ignition on.
- The bonnet isn’t fully latched — make sure it’s closed.
Frequently Asked Questions
How do I put the Renault Megane wipers in service position?
Ignition on, push the wiper stalk switch down; the arms rise to the service position. Return the stalk to neutral to lower them.
Why won’t my wipers move up to be changed?
They park under the bonnet lip on purpose. Use the service-position mode rather than forcing them.
How do I get them back down?
Fold them onto the glass and return the wiper stalk to neutral.
Do I need a tool?
No — it’s done with the wiper stalk only.
