The first-generation Subaru XV (GP, 2012–2017) uses an indirect tyre-pressure monitor: it watches each wheel’s rolling speed through the ABS sensors rather than using pressure sensors inside the tyres. That means there is nothing to “pair” — you reset it by setting the pressures correctly and then driving so the system learns a fresh reference.
How to reset the XV tyre-pressure warning
- Set all four tyres to the pressures on the label in the driver’s door opening, with the tyres cold.
- Switch the ignition on.
- Drive the car normally for at least 10 minutes, keeping the speed above about 40 km/h (25 mph) where it is safe to do so.
- The warning light goes out once the system has relearned the reference for all four wheels.
Carry out the relearn drive after any pressure adjustment, a tyre rotation, or fitting different wheels or tyres — otherwise the system keeps comparing against the old reference.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the Subaru XV (GP) have tyre-pressure sensors in the wheels?
No. It uses an indirect system based on the ABS wheel-speed sensors, so there are no battery-powered sensors to replace and nothing to re-pair after a tyre change — you simply drive to relearn.
Why won’t my TPMS light go out?
Most often one or more tyres is still under-inflated, so check and correct all four cold pressures first. If they are all correct and the light stays on after a 10-minute drive, have the ABS sensors and the system checked.
How long does the relearn take?
About 10 minutes of normal driving above 40 km/h. There is no button sequence — the reset happens automatically as you drive.
If the light is accompanied by an ABS or traction warning, read the stored code on autodtcs.com.
