Jump-Start a Flat Battery

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 1, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Vauxhall Corsa Mk5 (E/X15) 2014-2019.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

A flat 12 V battery is the most common reason a Vauxhall Corsa E (2014–2019) won’t start. If the lights and dash are weak or dead, you can jump-start it from another 12 V vehicle or a jump pack. The battery is in the engine bay.

How to jump-start a Vauxhall Corsa E

  1. Park the donor car close (not touching), switch both cars off and put both in park/neutral with handbrakes on.
  2. Connect the red lead to the flat battery’s positive (+), then to the donor’s positive (+).
  3. Connect the black lead to the donor’s negative (−), then to a bare metal earth point on your car’s engine — not the flat battery’s negative post.
  4. Start the donor car, let it run a few minutes, then start your Vauxhall Corsa E.
  5. Once running, remove the leads in reverse order and drive for 20–30 minutes to recharge.

Use a proper jump pack or leads, and never let the clamps touch each other. If the battery goes flat again quickly, it’s likely worn out or there’s a drain to trace.
