The Vauxhall Vivaro (2014–2019) is one of the UK’s most common work vans, and like every the Renault Trafic-based Vivaro B it uses a dashboard service reminder — a distance-to-service countdown you clear yourself after an oil and filter change. No tool, just the ignition on and two buttons.
The Vivaro B (2014–2019) is the second-generation Vauxhall/Opel Vivaro and the last one based on the Renault Trafic — long one of the UK’s best-selling medium vans. The 2019-on Vivaro C is a different, PSA-based van.
Do the Service First
Only zero the reminder once the work is done — the counter is there to flag when the oil is actually due.
Reset the Vivaro Service Indicator
- Switch the ignition on without starting the engine.
- Use the trip-computer scroll button to step through the readouts to ‘Mileage before service’.
- Press and hold the reset button — after about 5 seconds the remaining distance to service appears.
- Keep holding for a further 10 seconds until the figure jumps back to the full interval.
- Switch the ignition off, then on again to check the spanner has cleared.
If It Won’t Reset
The two things that catch people out are selecting the wrong readout and not holding long enough. Make sure ‘Mileage before service’ is on the display before you hold, and keep the button pressed for the full time. A spanner that stays on after a clean reset usually means a separate time-based service item is due.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the Vivaro B the same as the newer Vivaro?
No. The Vivaro B (2014–2019) shares the Renault Trafic platform, so these guides apply to it and its NV300 and Talento siblings. The 2019-on Vivaro C moved to the PSA/Stellantis platform and is a different van with different procedures.
How do you reset the service light on a Vauxhall Vivaro?
Ignition on (engine off), scroll to ‘Mileage before service’, then press and hold the reset button — about 5 seconds to show the distance, then 10 more to zero it.
Do I need a diagnostic tool?
No — it resets from the dashboard buttons. Only reset after the oil has actually been changed.
Is the Vauxhall Vivaro the same as a Renault Trafic?
Mechanically yes — it’s the Renault Trafic-based Vivaro B and shares its instrument panel, so the reset is identical across the Renault Trafic, Fiat Talento and Nissan NV300.
