Reinitialise the Electric Windows

These instructions apply to the Peugeot Partner Mk2 (B9) 2008-2018.

Short answer: if the electric windows on your Peugeot Partner B9 (2008–2018) only move while you hold the switch, or rise a few centimetres at a time, the one-touch function needs re-initialising after a battery disconnection or glitch. Switch the ignition on, open the window fully, then hold the switch up until it is completely closed — that resets it.

Why One-Touch Stops Working

The Partner’s windows learn their fully-closed position so the one-touch (automatic) mode and the anti-pinch protection can work. Disconnecting the 12V battery — or an electrical fault — wipes that learned position, so the window drops back to manual-only: it moves just while you hold the switch, or closes in small steps. Re-initialising teaches it the top stop again.

Reinitialise the Electric Windows

  1. Switch the ignition on.
  2. Fully open the window with its switch.
  3. Pull the switch up and keep holding until the window is completely closed. It may rise in a few short steps — if it stops, release and pull the switch up again, repeating until it is fully shut.
  4. With the window shut, hold the switch up for another second or two to store the closed position.

Repeat for each window that lost the function (driver switch = side 1, passenger = side 2). One-touch and anti-pinch are now restored. Note: while you are doing this, the anti-pinch protection is disabled — keep hands and objects clear of the window.

If the Window Only Closes and Won’t Reset

If a window has been opened and closed many times in quick succession, a thermal protection cuts in to stop the motor overheating. The window will then only close, not open, and won’t re-initialise. Leave it for about 40 minutes, then try the procedure again once the motor has cooled.

How Anti-Pinch Normally Behaves

Once re-initialised, a closing window that meets an obstacle stops and drops back down slightly. If something is trapped, press the switch to reopen it. If anti-pinch isn’t reacting, the window almost certainly still needs the re-initialisation above.

Frequently Asked Questions

Why does my Peugeot Partner window only go up a few centimetres at a time?

The one-touch position was lost — usually after the battery was disconnected. Reinitialise it: ignition on, open the window fully, then hold the switch up until it is completely closed and hold a moment longer.

My window stopped working after changing the battery — is it broken?

Almost never. Disconnecting the battery clears the learned closed position, so the window reverts to manual-only. The re-initialisation procedure above restores it in seconds — no need for a new regulator or a dealer.

Why won’t the window reinitialise at all — it only closes?

You’ve likely tripped the motor’s thermal overload protection by cycling it too many times. Wait about 40 minutes for the motor to cool, then run the procedure again.

Do I need a diagnostic tool to reset the windows?

No. It’s done entirely from the window switch with the ignition on — no OBD tool.

The anti-pinch keeps dropping the window before it shuts — why?

Until the window is re-initialised, anti-pinch can misread the top of travel and reverse the glass. Complete the re-initialisation (hold the switch up until fully closed) and it will settle.
