Auto Start-Stop on the 14th-generation Ford F-150 (P702, 2021 onward) shuts the engine off when you come to a stop to save fuel, then restarts it when you lift off the brake. If you’d rather keep the engine running, you can switch it off with one button — but it turns itself back on at every restart.
- Start the engine. Auto Start-Stop arms itself automatically every time you switch the ignition on.
- Find the Auto Start-Stop button — marked with an “A” inside a circular arrow, on the dash or centre console.
- Press it once. OFF lights up in the button and the engine will no longer shut down at stops for this drive.
Frequently asked questions
Does it stay off permanently?
No. Switching it off with the button lasts only the current key cycle — the F-150 re-arms Auto Start-Stop every time you restart, so you have to press the button again each drive. Ford provides no factory setting to disable it for good; some owners fit an aftermarket module that remembers the last state.
Where exactly is the button?
It varies by trim and configuration — look on the dashboard to the left of the wheel or on the centre console near the shifter, for the “A” encircled by an arrow. If your truck doesn’t have the button, it isn’t fitted with Auto Start-Stop.
Will turning it off harm the engine or starter?
No. The engine, starter and battery are all designed for frequent stop-starts. Disabling it is purely about drivability and comfort; leaving it on saves a little fuel.
Why doesn’t the engine shut off at some stops even with it on?
The system stays inactive when the battery charge is low, the engine or cabin hasn’t reached temperature, climate demand is high, or you’re stopped on a slope — all normal behaviour.
