The 12 V battery on the Vauxhall Corsa E (2014–2019) sits in the engine compartment. Disconnecting it clears the clock, radio stations and some learned settings, so note your audio security code before you start.
How to disconnect and reconnect the Corsa E battery
- Note the audio/infotainment security code and park with the ignition off and the key removed.
- Open the bonnet and find the battery in the engine compartment.
- Disconnect the negative (−) terminal first, then the positive (+). Tuck the leads aside so they cannot spring back onto the posts.
- To reconnect, fit the positive (+) terminal first, then the negative (−), and tighten both clamps firmly.
After reconnecting the battery
- Re-initialise the electric windows so one-touch up/down works again.
- Re-initialise the sunroof if one is fitted.
- Reset the clock and re-enter the radio station presets.
Always reset these volatile memories after reconnecting — the windows in particular may only open or close while you hold the switch until they are re-taught.
Frequently asked questions
Which terminal comes off first on a Corsa E?
The negative (−) first when disconnecting, and the positive (+) first when reconnecting. This avoids shorting a spanner to the bodywork.
Will I lose my radio code?
The stations clear, but modern Corsa E units usually relink automatically once powered; keep the code handy in case it asks for it.
If a warning light stays on after reconnecting, you can check the stored fault code on autodtcs.com.
