These instructions apply to the Honda Accord Mk8 (CU/CW) 2008-2015.

If the Accord’s battery has been disconnected or run flat — or the glass was moved by hand — the powered sunroof loses its one-touch auto open/close until the control unit is re-taught. It still tilts and slides while you hold the switch; the reset restores the automatic function.
How to reset the sunroof on a Honda Accord (2008–2015)
- Close the driver’s door and keep it closed until you finish.
- Turn the ignition to LOCK (0).
- Press and hold the tilt switch, and turn the ignition to ON (II).
- Release the tilt switch and turn the ignition back to LOCK (0).
- Repeat steps 3–4 a total of four times.
- Test auto open/close. If it still works automatically, the memory hasn’t cleared — start again from step 1.
- Once auto is disabled, press and hold the open switch for 3 seconds after the roof is fully open.
- Press and hold the close switch for 3 seconds after the roof is fully closed (tilted).
- Check that auto open and auto close now work.
Keep the driver’s door shut throughout — opening it resets the timer and the sequence will not take. If auto still fails after a few attempts, the sunroof motor or its position sensor may be the cause rather than the initialization.
Frequently asked questions
Why did my sunroof auto function stop working?
The control unit loses its learned end positions when the battery is disconnected or the glass is moved manually. One-touch auto stays disabled for safety until you re-initialize it with the steps above.
Do I need any tools?
No. The reset is done entirely with the ignition and the sunroof tilt/open/close switch — no tool or scan equipment is required.
The roof reverses before it closes — is that related?
It can be. If the glass jerks or reverses during auto close with nothing blocking it, re-run the reset after checking the track for dirt and debris; a dirty track or an un-taught control unit are the common causes.
