Set the Wipers to Service Position

Reviewed by the Service Reset editor · Updated October 7, 2026 · How we verify

These instructions apply to the Mercedes E-Class Mk5 (W213) 2016-2023.
For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

The Mercedes E-Class W213 lifts its wipers to a service position so you can change the blades. You trigger it from the wiper stalk, then switch the ignition off as the arms reach vertical.

Do this with the hood closed so the arms clear the bodywork.

How to raise the E-Class wipers for blade change

  1. Make sure the hood is closed.
  2. Turn the ignition on.
  3. Move the wiper stalk to continuous (normal) operation.
  4. As soon as the wipers reach the vertical position, turn the ignition off; the arms stop raised.
  5. Change the blades, then switch the ignition on and run the wipers once to return them to park.

How do I get E-Class wipers into service mode?

Turn the ignition on, sweep the wipers with the stalk, and switch the ignition off while they are upright. They hold in the raised service position until you cycle them again.

If a warning light stays on or a fault code appears afterwards, you can look the code up free on autodtcs.com.
