These instructions apply to the Mercedes E-Class Mk5 (W213) 2016-2023.

The Mercedes E-Class W213 hides a service menu behind the Trip display, opened with the two steering-wheel buttons. It is the single gateway to the car’s owner-accessible service functions — the service reset, the electronic oil level, and the parking-brake pad mode all live here.
This page is the full reference: how to open the menu, and what each section does.
How to open the E-Class engineering menu
- Turn the ignition to position 1 (engine off). On keyless cars, press Start once without your foot on the brake.
- Using the left steering-wheel control, open the Trip menu and scroll to Total distance.
- Press and hold the back button; within about a second press the OK button and keep both held.
- The menu appears with VEHICLE DATA, DYNAMOMETER TEST and ASSYST PLUS.
- Select a section with the steering-wheel control and OK; press back repeatedly and switch off to exit.
Some build dates use a slightly different entry — hold the back button about five seconds, then hold OK for at least three seconds. The 2021 facelift moved to touch controls on the wheel, but the back and OK buttons behave the same once you are in.
What each section does
VEHICLE DATA reads live information, including the electronic engine-oil level in liters — the replacement for the missing dipstick.
ASSYST PLUS holds the service functions, including the service-indicator reset. Only confirm a full service when the work has actually been done, because that step cannot be undone.
DYNAMOMETER TEST is a rolling-road mode for workshop testing. Leave it alone for normal driving; it is not something you enable on the road.
The electronic parking-brake pad-replacement mode is also reached from this menu. Nothing in here reprograms or codes the car, but read each screen before confirming.
Is the E-Class engineering menu safe to use?
Yes, for reading data and the listed service functions. It does not change coding. Just avoid confirming the service reset unless the work is done, and do not enable the dynamometer mode on the road.
If a warning lamp sent you here, identifying its fault code first often saves time — you can do that free on autodtcs.com.
