Set the Windscreen Wipers to Service Position

These instructions apply to the Honda Civic Mk10 (FK) 2016-2021. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

To change the wiper blades on a Honda Civic Mk10 (FK, 2016–2021) you first put the wipers into their service position so the arms lift clear of the bonnet. Honda uses a neat trick — hold the wiper stalk in MIST while switching the ignition on. Here’s how.

Why There’s a Service Position

The Civic parks its wipers low against the scuttle. Lifting them from there risks bending an arm against the bonnet. The service position raises them so they swing away freely.

How to Set the Civic Mk10 Wiper Service Position

  1. Make sure the bonnet is closed and the wipers are parked.
  2. Turn the ignition off (LOCK).
  3. Hold the wiper stalk in the ‘MIST’ position (push it up/towards you for a single wipe) and, while holding it, turn the ignition ON.
  4. The wipers move up to the service position and stop.
  5. Lift the arms off the glass and renew the blades.

Returning the Wipers to Normal

Fold the arms back down onto the screen, then operate the wipers (or cycle the ignition) — they return to their normal parked position.

If It Doesn’t Work

  • Didn’t hold MIST while switching on — the stalk must be held in MIST as the ignition goes to ON.
  • Blades frozen — free them gently first, or the motor may stall.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I lift the Civic Mk10 wipers to change the blades?

Hold the wiper stalk in MIST and turn the ignition on — the wipers rise to the service position.

Do I need any tools?

No — just the ignition and the wiper stalk.

How do I get them back down?

Fold the arms onto the screen and operate the wipers — they return to park.

Can I lift them at the parked position instead?

Best not to — forcing them against the bonnet can bend an arm. Use the service position.
