Home/Peugeot/2008/Mk2 (P24) 2019-Present/Replace the Key Fob Battery

Replace the Key Fob Battery

These instructions apply to the Peugeot 2008 Mk2 (P24) 2019-Present. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

A weak key is the usual reason a Peugeot 2008 Mk2 (P24, 2019–present) stops locking from a distance or asks you to hold the fob to the start button. The 2008 key takes a single CR2032 and the change takes a couple of minutes.

Battery You Need

A single CR2032 3 V coin cell. If you have an older-style remote key rather than the keyless ‘Proximity’ fob, check the cell you remove — some take a CR1620 — and match it.

How to Replace the Key Battery

  1. Slide out the emergency blade using the release catch.
  2. Use the slot (or a small screwdriver) to split the fob and reach the cell.
  3. Lift out the old coin cell, noting which way up it sits.
  4. Fit the new CR2032 the same way up, observing polarity.
  5. Clip the fob together and slide the blade home.

Lock and unlock from a few metres to confirm.

If It Still Won’t Work

  • Start the car anyway — hold the fob against the start button as you press; the car reads the transponder directly.
  • Lock manually with the emergency blade in the driver’s door.
