Getting Ready
- Park under cover if you can — the sequence opens the roof fully at least once.
- Confirm the battery is in good health and charged; a weak battery is the usual reason a relearn won’t finish.
- Turn the ignition on to power the roof circuit; the engine does not need to be running.
- Look over the roof track and seal for debris or ice, and keep hands, hair and loose items out of the opening.
- Set aside an uninterrupted minute so you can hold the switch right through the cycle without releasing early.
How to Re-initialise the Sunroof
- Switch the ignition on.
- Hold the close switch until the roof is fully closed.
- Press and hold the switch again — the roof tilts and moves slightly; hold about 1 second, then release.
- Wait 2 seconds, then press and hold the switch once more — it runs a full open/close cycle.
- Keep holding 2 seconds at the end, then release — the system is reset.
If It Doesn’t Complete
- Don’t release early. Letting go before the panel reaches its end-stop is the most frequent cause of a failed relearn; hold the switch through the whole cycle.
- Check and charge the battery. If voltage drops while the motor is working, the controller can’t log a clean limit.
- Clear any obstruction in the track and along the seal — anything that stalls the panel aborts the sequence.
- Always begin from fully closed. If a cycle is interrupted, shut the roof completely and start again rather than resuming part-open.
- If it still won’t retain its positions after a few clean tries, have the motor, switch and wiring inspected before condemning the panel itself.
What Happens Next
With the relearn done, one-touch open and close should be back, the tilt position should hold, and the auto-reverse safety should trigger again when the roof meets resistance. Cycle it open and closed once more to check it travels smoothly end to end and seals fully. If the battery came off for other work, take a moment to re-teach the electric windows as well, since they lose their auto-up and anti-pinch memory the same way and are quick to reset.
