Oil Change vs Inspection
The Q2 can show two separate reminders. The oil-change service covers the engine oil and filter and comes up more often. Because the two are counted separately, you may clear one and still see the other. Reset whichever the car is actually prompting; after a full service that includes both, clear both.
Before You Begin
Reset the counter after the work is done, never before — the interval measures distance and time since the last reset, so clearing it early just hides the reminder while the oil keeps ageing. Then:
- Park on level ground with the handbrake applied.
- The reset is done with the ignition on and the engine off — you don’t start the engine.
- No tools are needed; the trip-reset button and ignition do the whole job.
- Know where your trip-reset (0.0) button is before you start — on the wiper stalk end or on the instrument cluster, depending on trim.
How to Reset Using the Trip Button
- Turn the ignition off.

If the Button Method Doesn’t Offer a Reset
Some Q2 cars only expose the reset through diagnostics. If the trip-button prompt doesn’t appear, the service indicator is reset with a VCDS/OBD tool or at a dealer. The MMI Vehicle → Service & checks menu still shows the remaining intervals.
Before giving up on the button method, check the basics: hold the reset button before and during switching the ignition on rather than after, make sure the engine is not running, and give the prompt a moment to appear. If it still doesn’t show, switch everything off, wait a few seconds, and try the sequence once more from the beginning.
If the Reminder Returns
- It reappears at start-up — the confirmation wasn’t completed; repeat and confirm.
- Only one of two messages cleared — oil and inspection reset separately; run the sequence again for the second prompt.
- A different warning is on — that’s a fault, not the service timer, and won’t clear with a service reset.
After the Reset
Once confirmed, the spanner and the Service/Inspection text clear and the counter returns to a full interval, counting down again from the reset. The message should no longer greet you at start-up. If it does, the confirmation didn’t take — repeat the steps to the end.
