Dacia Sandero (Mk3 / DJF, 2021–present) models with Stop & Start cut the engine at a standstill to save fuel. You can switch it off with a single button, but it turns itself back on each time you restart the car.
How to Turn Off Stop & Start on a Dacia Sandero (Mk3)
- With the engine running, find the Stop & Start button (an “A” inside a circular arrow) on the dash or center console.
- Press it once — “Start/stop deactivated” appears on the display and the warning light illuminates.
- The engine will no longer cut out at a standstill until you restart the car.
Why It Comes Back On
Stop & Start defaults to “on” at every engine start, so the button is a per-drive toggle rather than a permanent setting. There’s no owner menu to make “off” stick.
The system also won’t stop the engine on its own if the battery charge is low, the cabin isn’t yet at temperature, or you’re on a slope — that’s normal behavior.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does my Sandero Mk3 have Stop & Start?
Most Mk3 Sanderos have it. If there’s no “A in a circle” button, your car isn’t fitted with it.
Why won’t the engine stop at lights?
Stop & Start only acts when conditions are met — battery charged, engine warm, level ground. Otherwise it stays dormant, by design.
If a stop-start or battery warning appears, look up the code on autodtcs.com.
