Disconnecting the 12 V battery on a Hyundai i10 (PA, 2008–2013) is a simple job for a battery change or before electrical work. The i10 has no special sleep routine — just switch off first and follow the correct order.
Where the battery is
The 12 V battery sits in the engine bay, on the right-hand side as you look in (next to the ABS unit). Lift any cover to reach the two terminal clamps. If you are renewing it, fit a like-for-like battery of the same size and capacity.
Before you disconnect
- Note your radio presets and the clock — they will be lost.
- Make sure the ignition key is in the OFF position and everything electrical is switched off.
- Remove the key and let the car sit for a few moments so the modules power down.
Disconnecting — correct order
- Slacken the clamp on the negative (−, earth) terminal first and lift the lead clear of the post.
- Only undo the positive (+) terminal if you are removing the battery completely.
- If removing it, undo the hold-down clamp at the base and lift the battery out upright.
Reconnecting — correct order
- Refit the battery and secure the hold-down clamp.
- Connect the positive (+) lead first, then the negative (−) earth lead last, and tighten both.
- Turn the ignition on for a few seconds before starting.
What to reset afterwards
- Reset the clock and radio and re-enter presets.
- If the electric windows lose one-touch, wind each fully up and hold the switch briefly to relearn the top stop.
- On cars with ISG (Idle Stop & Go), the system may stay off for the first drive while the battery charge is recalculated — this is normal.
If a warning light stays on
A light or two right after reconnecting is normal and should clear on a short drive. If the airbag, ABS or engine light stays lit, a code has been stored — reading it needs an OBD scanner, and you can look up what a Hyundai code means on autodtcs.com.
