These instructions apply to the Mercedes Sprinter Mk3 (W907/W910) 2018-Present.

If your Sprinter has the optional electric side sliding door, it can lose its learned end positions after a 12V battery disconnect, a flat battery, or if it starts mis-operating. Reinitialising it teaches the door where its fully open and closed points are so it works smoothly under power again.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Method 1: Close the electric sliding door, then press and hold the sliding-door button until the door completes its travel.
- Method 2: Close the sliding door by hand, then open the sliding door by hand.
- Method 3: Close the sliding door by hand, then briefly press the sliding-door button.
- Check that the door now opens and closes correctly under power.
Good to know
Reinitialising is most often needed straight after a 12V battery disconnect, so it is worth pairing this with the battery job — see our Sprinter 12V battery guide.
If none of the three methods restores normal powered operation, have the door checked by a workshop. Also keep the door track and the powered mechanism clear of grit and debris, as an obstruction can stop the door learning its end positions.
FAQ
Why won’t my Sprinter electric sliding door work after a battery change?
Disconnecting the 12V battery wipes the door’s stored end positions, so it no longer knows where fully open and closed are. Reinitialise it and normal powered operation returns.
How do I reinitialise the electric sliding door?
Turn the ignition on, then use one of the three methods: hold the sliding-door button with the door closed, close and open the door by hand, or close it by hand and briefly press the button.
Do I need any tools or a diagnostic tester?
No. Reinitialising is done entirely with the ignition on and the door button or by moving the door by hand.
What if the door still won’t operate after trying all three methods?
Have the door and its powered mechanism checked by a workshop, as there may be a fault with the motor, wiring or a physical obstruction in the track.
