When the tyre-pressure warning light comes on in your Mini (F55/F56, 2013–2024), it usually just means the system needs to store your current pressures as the new reference — not that a sensor has failed. You reset it through the on-board menu and a short drive. This guide shows how.
How the Mini System Works
The F56 Mini monitors tyre pressure and asks you to reset (re-initialise) the reference whenever you adjust the pressures or change a wheel. You start the reset from the on-board display (My Mini → Vehicle status), then drive to let the system learn — it confirms when the procedure is complete.
When to Reset
- After checking or adjusting the tyre pressures (including seasonal changes).
- After changing one or more wheels or tyres.
- After rotating the wheels front-to-back.
Set Your Pressures First
The reset stores whatever pressures are in the tyres at that moment, so they must be correct first. Set all four (cold) to the figures on the placard on the driver’s door pillar, using the laden column for a full load. Never reset with a tyre already low.
How to Reset the Mini TPMS
- Make sure all four tyres are at the correct cold pressure.
- Turn the ignition on.
- Using the on-board display, select “My Mini”.
- Select “Vehicle status”, then “Tyre pressure monitor”.
- Start the engine — but do not drive away yet.
- Select “Perform reset”.
- Drive the car to complete the procedure — a confirmation message appears on the display when it is done.
Light Won’t Go Out? Work Through This
- A tyre is genuinely low: the system is doing its job — find and fix the leak, re-inflate, then reset.
- Reset not completed: you must start the reset from the menu and then drive for it to finish — the confirmation only appears after driving.
- Light stays on with correct pressures: a persistent fault may be stored — you can look up what a code means on autodtcs.com.
Frequently Asked Questions
Where is the tyre-pressure reset on a Mini F56?
In the on-board menu: My Mini → Vehicle status → Tyre pressure monitor → Perform reset. Start the engine first, then drive to complete it.
Do I have to drive after starting the reset?
Yes — the Mini finishes the procedure while driving and shows a confirmation message once it is complete.
Why does the light come back a few days later?
Either a tyre is slowly losing air, or you reset while a tyre was already low. Re-check all four cold pressures and reset again.
Do I need to reset after just topping up the air?
Yes — any pressure change shifts the reference, so perform the reset after any adjustment.
After tyre or seasonal-wheel work it is worth confirming the service reminder is clear — see our Mini F56 service indicator reset guide.
