A flat battery on the Suzuki Alto (2009-2014) can be jump started from another car. Connect the cables in the correct order.

Jump start the Alto

  1. Park the donor car close but not touching. Switch off accessories in both, set the parking brakes.
  2. Red cable to the positive (+) of the flat battery.
  3. Other red end to the donor’s positive (+).
  4. Black cable to the donor’s negative (−).
  5. Other black end to a bare metal ground / engine bracket on the Alto – not the flat battery’s negative post.
  6. Start the donor, let it idle, then start the Alto.
  7. Remove the cables in reverse order without letting the clamps touch.

Drive or idle for a while to recharge. If it goes flat again, have the battery and charging system tested.

Frequently asked questions

Why ground to the engine? It keeps the final spark away from the battery, which can vent flammable gas.
