If your Toyota C-HR (XW10) fuel-filler flap will not pop open, there is a manual release hidden inside the boot. It is a small lever behind the luggage-area side trim, on the same side of the car as the filler. This guide shows where it is and how to use it if the flap stays shut.
How the fuel flap opens
The C-HR has no fuel-door button in the cabin. The flap unlocks with the central locking, and you open it by pressing its rear edge so it springs out. If the 12V battery is flat, ice is holding the flap down, or the lock actuator sticks, the flap stays closed and you use the manual release behind the boot trim instead.
Open the fuel flap manually

- Make sure the car is unlocked, then open the tailgate.
- Look at the side of the boot nearest the fuel-filler flap. Fold back or unclip the small cover in the carpeted side trim to reach the mechanism behind it.
- Find the release lever behind the trim (arrowed in the photo above) and pull or slide it toward you.
- The fuel flap springs open on the outside of the car. Refit the boot-side cover once you have finished.
If the flap still will not open
Unlock the car fully first, as the flap will not release while the car is locked. In cold weather a thin layer of ice can hold the flap down, so press firmly along its rear edge to break it free. If the manual lever moves but the flap does not open, the flap hinge or catch may be seized and needs a closer look.
FAQ
Where is the fuel door release on a Toyota C-HR?
There is no release button or lever in the cabin. Normally you press the rear edge of the fuel flap to open it. The only manual release is the small lever behind the luggage-area side trim, used if the flap will not pop open on its own.
Why will my C-HR fuel flap not open?
The most common causes are the car still being locked, a flat 12V battery, ice around the flap, or a sticking lock actuator. Unlock the car and try pressing the flap again before reaching for the manual release.
Which side is the fuel filler on?
The filler is at the rear on one side of the car, so check your own C-HR. The manual release sits behind the boot side trim on that same side.
Do I need any tools?
No. The boot-side cover opens by hand and the release lever is operated with your fingers.
Once the flap is open you can refuel as normal. If a warning light stayed on afterwards, you can identify the fault by looking up the trouble code at autodtcs.com.
