Home/Vauxhall/Astra/Mk7 (K/B16) 2015-2021/Reset the Service Indicator

Reset the Service Indicator

These instructions apply to the Vauxhall Astra Mk7 (K/B16) 2015-2021. For other models, please choose your vehicle here.

Last updated: June 6, 2026

When the spanner or “Service” / oil-life message appears on your Vauxhall Astra K (Mk7, 2015–2021) — Opel Astra in Europe — the Oil Life System has run down. You reset it from the driver-information menu; no garage tool needed. Do the oil and filter change first.

Reset After the Service Only

The Oil Life System estimates oil condition from how you drive. Reset it only once fresh oil and a filter are in, or it will under-estimate the next interval.

How to Reset the Astra K Service Indicator

  1. Turn the ignition on (engine off).
  2. Press ‘MENU’ on the indicator stalk and scroll to ‘Vehicle Information’; press to open it.
  3. Scroll to ‘Oil Life System’ (remaining oil life).
  4. Press and hold the menu button AND the brake pedal together for about 3 seconds.
  5. The oil life returns to 100% — the reset is done. Turn the ignition off.

If It Doesn’t Reset

  • You didn’t hold both together — the button and brake pedal must be held at the same time for ~3 seconds.
  • A different warning is lit — that’s a fault, not the oil-life counter.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I reset the service light on a Vauxhall Astra K?

Ignition on, open Menu → Vehicle Information → Oil Life System, then hold the menu button and the brake pedal together for ~3 seconds.

Do I need a diagnostic tool?

No — it’s done from the dashboard menu.

Does the engine need to run?

No — ignition on, engine off.

The message came back — why?

The button + brake hold didn’t register. Repeat until the oil life shows 100%.

If a warning light appeared with the service message, look it up on autodtcs.com. After battery work, see our Astra K battery guide.
