Reset the One-Touch Power Windows

When your Charger’s one-touch windows quit — you tap the switch and the glass no longer runs to the top or bottom by itself — the cause is almost always a battery or door-module disconnect that erased the window’s stored travel. The motor is fine; hold the switch and the window still moves. It has just forgotten where its upper and lower stops are, and a short teach-in on each front door restores express. Close the doors first so the glass can reach its natural closed stop.

How you know it needs a relearn

On a Charger the symptom shows up most after the battery has been out for an audio or alarm install, a winter on a tender, or a front-door speaker upgrade. A brief tap does nothing, yet holding the switch runs the glass fine. Frequently auto-up dies while auto-down still works, because the module loses the closed reference first. Only the driver and front passenger doors have express on this car, so the rear windows are not involved and are not part of the reset.

1. Turn the ignition to the Run position. The engine can be off.
2. Hold the driver’s window switch UP until the window stalls fully closed, keep holding for at least two seconds after it stops, then release.
3. Hold the same switch DOWN until the window stalls fully open, hold for at least two seconds after it stops, then release.
4. Hold the switch UP once more until the window is fully closed, hold for at least two seconds after it stalls, then release.
5. Repeat steps 2–4 using the front passenger window switch.
6. Test express up and down on both windows.

Why it happens

Each front door module logs the motor position of the fully-closed and fully-open stops so it can drive the glass automatically and back off if it hits an obstruction. A loss of power clears those endpoints, and with no learned limits the module switches express off deliberately rather than run a window it can no longer position accurately.

If express still won’t work

• Keep the switch held about two seconds past the stall at each end — releasing the moment the glass stops is the most common reason the teach-in fails.
• Treat the two front doors separately; each module only learns the window you cycle.
• Repeat the routine once if a window still refuses a single-tap run.
• If express still won’t return after a second clean attempt, the door module likely has a stored fault or the regulator is binding — problems the relearn can’t cure — so have that door diagnosed.

Whenever you cut power to the car for a battery swap or an install, plan on running this quick reset on both front windows afterward.
