These instructions apply to the Dodge Charger Mk6 (LX) 2006-2010.

This is a quick, verified reference for the fluids, capacities and spark-plug specifications of the Dodge Charger (LX, 2006–2010) across its engines — the 2.7 L and 3.5 L V6s, the 5.7 L HEMI V8 and the 6.1 L SRT8. Figures are from the factory data; always confirm against the label under your bonnet and the placard in the door opening.
Engine Oil — Grade and Capacity
Note the 3.5 L V6 does not take the same grade as the other engines.
| Engine | Oil grade | Capacity (with filter) |
|---|---|---|
| 2.7 L V6 | SAE 5W-20 (API certified) | 6.0 qt / 5.7 L |
| 3.5 L V6 | SAE 10W-30 (API certified) | 6.0 qt / 5.7 L |
| 5.7 L HEMI V8 | SAE 5W-20 (API certified) | 7.0 qt / 6.6 L |
Oil must meet DaimlerChrysler standard MS-6395. The oil-change indicator should be reset after each change — see our Charger oil-change reminder reset guide. The manufacturer states the interval should never exceed 6,000 miles (10,000 km) or 6 months, whichever comes first.
International markets: outside North America these V6s are specified SAE 5W-30 (both the 2.7 L and the 3.5 L); the 5.7 L HEMI stays 5W-20 everywhere. Follow the grade on your own oil-filler cap and handbook.
Coolant — Type and Capacity
All engines use Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (or equivalent). Capacities include the heater and the recovery bottle filled to MAX.
| Engine | Cooling-system capacity |
|---|---|
| 2.7 L V6 | 9.9 qt / 9.4 L |
| 3.5 L V6 (without AWD) | 11.1 qt / 10.5 L |
| 3.5 L V6 (with AWD) | 11.4 qt / 10.8 L |
| 5.7 L HEMI V8 | 14.7 qt / 13.9 L |
| 5.7 L with Severe Duty II cooling | 15.1 qt / 14.3 L |
Fuel Tank
| Engine | Fuel capacity |
|---|---|
| 2.7 L V6 | 18 gal / 68 L |
| 3.5 L V6 (without AWD) | 18 gal / 68 L |
| 3.5 L V6 (with AWD) | 19 gal / 72 L |
| 5.7 L HEMI V8 | 19 gal / 72 L |
Spark Plugs — Type, Gap and Torque
Each engine uses a different plug and gap. Do not swap grades between engines.
| Engine | Plug type | Electrode gap | Torque |
|---|---|---|---|
| 2.7 L V6 | RE10PMC5 | 0.048–0.058 in | 17 N·m (12.5 ft·lb) |
| 3.5 L V6 | ZFR5LP-13G | 0.048–0.058 in | 28 N·m (20 ft·lb) |
| 5.7 L HEMI V8 | Champion RE14MCC4 | 1.14 mm (0.045 in) | To spec — tapered seat, do not over-tighten |
| 6.1 L HEMI V8 (SRT8) | NGK PLZTR5A-13 | 1.3 mm (0.050 in) | 15–20 N·m (11–15 ft·lb), max 15 ft·lb |
The HEMI plugs are a tapered-seat design — over-tightening distorts them. The V6 platinum plugs have a long service life; start every plug by hand to avoid cross-threading the aluminium heads.
A Note on Service Intervals
The figures above are from the North American specification. Service intervals (the maintenance schedule) differ by market and by duty cycle — the US manual lists a normal and a severe (heavy-duty) schedule — so for the exact schedule for your car, follow the maintenance schedule in your own owner’s handbook for your market.
Frequently Asked Questions
Does the 3.5 L V6 really use different oil? Yes — the 3.5 L is specified for 10W-30, while the 2.7 L V6 and the 5.7 L HEMI V8 use 5W-20.
What coolant does the Charger use? Mopar Antifreeze/Coolant 5 Year/100,000 Mile Formula (HOAT) or an equivalent meeting the same spec — do not mix in a plain green coolant.
How often should the oil be changed? No more than every 6,000 miles (10,000 km) or 6 months, and sooner under severe use.
Are these gaps pre-set? The V6 and HEMI plugs come pre-gapped; check the gap against the table before fitting and handle the electrodes carefully.
