These instructions apply to the Honda Accord Mk8 (CU/CW) 2008-2015.

The eighth-generation Accord (CU saloon, CW Tourer) uses Honda’s Maintenance Minder — a wrench symbol, an engine oil-life percentage and letter/number service codes in the instrument display. After an oil change or service you clear it yourself with the dashboard buttons; no tool is needed for the main reset.

How to reset the Maintenance Minder on a Honda Accord (2008–2015)
- Park the car, apply the handbrake and turn the ignition to ON (II) — the dash lights come on but do not start the engine.
- If a service message is on screen, press the INFO button once to clear it.
- Push and release the SEL/RESET button repeatedly until the engine oil-life percentage is shown.
- Press and hold SEL/RESET for about 10 seconds until the “OIL LIFE RESET” prompt appears.
- Press INFO to highlight “RESET”, then press SEL/RESET to confirm. The oil life returns to 100% and the service code(s) clear.
The SEL/RESET and INFO buttons sit on the instrument cluster (or on the steering wheel on cars fitted with the i-MID colour screen). On cars with satellite navigation, open the i-MID Maintenance screen instead and hold the selector to reach the same reset.
Only reset after the work is actually done. Clearing the display without servicing the car leaves no accurate record of when maintenance is due. Honda also specifies replacing the brake fluid every 3 years regardless of what the Maintenance Minder shows.
What the service codes mean
The Maintenance Minder shows a main letter plus one or more sub-numbers — for example B1 means jobs B and 1 are both due.
- A — replace engine oil.
- B — replace engine oil and filter; inspect brakes, parking brake, steering and suspension.
- 1 — rotate tires, check inflation and condition.
- 2 — replace the air cleaner element and the dust & pollen (cabin) filter; inspect the drive belt.
- 3 — replace the transmission fluid.
- 4 — replace the spark plugs; inspect valve clearances.
- 5 — replace the engine coolant.
Frequently asked questions
What does the wrench light on my Accord mean?
The wrench symbol is the Maintenance Minder telling you a service is due. It is not a fault warning — read the oil-life percentage and the letter/number code next to it to see exactly what the car needs.
What does “Service B1” (or A1) mean?
It is two jobs combined. B covers an oil and filter change plus a brake and chassis inspection; 1 is a tire rotation and inflation check. “A1” is an oil change (no filter) plus the tire rotation.
There is no SEL/RESET button on my car — what now?
Higher-trim cars with the colour i-MID or satellite navigation move the reset into the on-screen Maintenance menu. Turn the ignition to ON (II), open that menu with the steering-wheel or dash controls, select the item and hold to reset it to 100%.
Does resetting the Maintenance Minder fix a problem?
No. It only clears the service reminder. If a separate warning light — such as the check-engine light — is on, that points to a stored trouble code and needs diagnosing, not resetting.
If a check-engine light is also showing, you can look up the fault code on autodtcs.com before deciding what work is needed.
