If the remote on your Skoda Octavia Mk4 (NX, 2020–present) has gone weak — short range, hesitant keyless entry, or a “key battery low” message — the coin cell needs renewing. The Octavia flip key uses a CR2032 and opens with the emergency blade. No programming needed.
What You’ll Need
- A fresh CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell.
- The fob’s metal key blade and a small flat screwdriver.
How to Replace the Octavia Mk4 Key Battery
- Pull out the key blade — press the release catch and withdraw it.
- Insert a small screwdriver into the slot/seam and gently remove the cover (the half of the case that holds the cell).
- Lever out the old CR2032, noting which way up it sits.
- Fit the new cell the same way round, by the edges.
- Click the case together and slide the blade home.
- Press any button, then test lock/unlock from a normal distance.
Does It Need Programming?
No — the swap doesn’t affect the fob’s pairing, so it works straight away. A lost or extra key can only be ordered and coded by a Skoda dealer.
If It Still Won’t Respond
Re-open the fob, check the cell orientation and clean the contacts. Press any button a couple of times to re-sync the rolling code; on keyless cars hold the fob against the start button to start if entry is slow.
Frequently Asked Questions
What battery does the Octavia Mk4 key take?
A single CR2032 3 V lithium coin cell.
Will the car still start with a flat key battery?
Yes — on keyless cars hold the fob against the start button to start; the emergency blade unlocks the driver’s door.
Do I need to re-pair it?
No — pairing is unaffected. Press any button once to re-sync and you’re done.
Can I program a spare key myself?
No — Skoda key coding needs the dealer system. Only the battery swap is DIY.
